How lucky are the many who have written here about their long and rewarding friendships with Col. Our relationship was more one of those quite common in our industry - a long (and often hilarious) workplace acquaintance (News, Fairfax, ACP) but with far too few social contacts.

Many of these came in more recent years through mutual friends such as Al Parkhouse (and most recently Winsor Dobbin), but - as busy as Col usually was - he always found time for a quick lunch or a coffee for a catch-up when our schedules permitted.

It's shockingly unfair that those bright moments in the company of a warm and deeply intelligent man have been taken from us so soon.
