Tribute from Julie-Anne Davies - Footy Tipping is a metaphor for Life
By Julie-Anne Davies - December 1, 2004
Look I didn't know Col for very long or very well - I only joined The Bulletin a year ago- but Col was the person who made the biggest and most open hearted effort to draw me into the fold. He understood that working in an outpost like Melbourne might have its virtues but also its drawbacks. So Col made sure he rang and emailed and most of the time it wasn't about a looming deadline but just to check in. He understood that no matter how hopelessly I let the Victorian side down with my erratic footy tipping, the important thing was to be a part of it. And so I looked foreward every week to Col's gentle jibes at my form and out of it the beginnings of a friendship grew. It ended way too soon.
